The Joseph and Elaine Monsen Collection
Dr. Joseph Monsen was a collector who lived in Seattle, WA. He is renowned for his collections of photography, Asian art and ceramics. In 2001, once I graduated with my Masters in Museology from the University of Washington, I began working with the Drs. Monsen. In this position, I assist them in organizing and caring for their collections and in loaning and donating works to museums across the United States. It is an honor to have worked with this couple and their family over these many years and to assist them in their sharing of their collected works of art. They are educators, and this commitment to education continues in their selections of artworks and where those works are to be donated. To paraphrase Dr. Joseph Monsen: (they) began collecting photography because museums needed them.
I continue to work with this collection with their daughter, Dr. Maren Monsen.
